Immigration SA can assist skilled migrants search for work within their area of expertise.
Once you have arrived in South Australia for your permanent settlement and registered as an Immigration SA client you are encouraged to register to attend a series FREE information sessions and employment focused sessions.
The employment sessions are designed to help you understand the local labour market and develop strategies that are essential to competing effectively in the South Australian job market.
Eligibility for all sessions are detailed here with the addition of prerequisite sessions as listed below.
Event requirements
To be eligible you must meet all the following requirements:
- Be residing in South Australia;
- Hold a State nominated visa;
- Have recently arrived in South Australia (less than two years since you arrived or granted a State nominated visa in the last two years);
- Be unemployed, underemployed or not working in your area of skill;
- Have recent employment history in skilled work.
How to register
- Log onto the Immigration SA Apply website, workshops will be listed under 'Events' on your client page
- Click on the session name and date you wish to attend to register
- Spouses or secondary applicants must create their own account through the Immigration SA Apply website and register independently for all services
- You will receive a confirmation email on registration and a reminder email prior to the event.
Your responsibilities
- All state nominated primary applicants and their skilled partners can access job support
- You are encouraged to register for support services within the first three months of arrival in South Australia or visa grant if already located in SA.
- Places are limited. If you cannot attend, you must cancel. We encourage you to reschedule your booking.

Job Essentials session
During the session you will:
- be provided with information about industry trends, employer expectations
- learn about and develop strategies to make your job search targeted and effective.
- develop techniques to ‘localise’ your experience and;
- learn how to create your own action plan for job seeking
Ideal Job Interviews
This session is designed to build your confidence and develop an understanding of what local employers look for in interviews.
During this session you will:
- learn about the various types of interview and recruitment processes
- develop techniques and strategies to assist you to improve interview preparation and performance
- discuss and practice some of the most commonly asked interview questions
- Understand employer intentions and evaluation processes
Prerequisite - Participation in a Job Essentials session is required to register for this session.
Australian Workplace Culture
This session is designed to inform and develop your knowledge of Australian workplace culture and Australian workplace environment.
During this session you will:
- Be provided an overview of the legal workplace health and safety requirements in Australia
- Develop your understanding of the different communication styles
- Discuss your rights and responsibilities as an employee
- Learn more about what you can expect when you enter an Australian workplace
Resume and Application Preparation
A practical session to enhance your resume and application writing skills to meet employer expectations.
During this session you will:
- Explore how to develop targeted and effective job application documents.
- Learn how to prepare and tailor your resume and cover letter for every job
- Develop your understanding of how to address selection criteria
- Gain an understanding of what employers are looking for in these documents
- Discuss the do’s and dont’s of application writing
Please note: There is no opportunity for individual review or discussion of resumes or application documents during this session.
Prerequisite - Participation in a Job Essentials session is required to register for this session.
Spotlight Seminars
These seminars are designed to provide up to date information on key labour market information, job search trends, industry specific themes and keep your job search on track. Seminars invite guest speakers to provide industry insights and focus on increasing skilled migrants access to their area of expertise.

Individualised Assistance
Immigration SA can offer individualised employment support to newly arrived state nominated skilled migrants. Individualised support is determined on a case by case basis. Consultations may be related to interview preparation, employment action plan review or more complex matters such as extensive challenges and or barriers to employment.
Eligibility requirements include:
- Have participated in Job Essentials session
- Be able to provide evidence of recent job search activities including; implementation of job search strategies an Employment Action plan, including an updated resume
- Individual consultations are by appointment only
- Log onto the Immigration SA Apply website and click on “Submit enquiry” to request employment support
